Left Write Hook equips adult survivors of sexual violence to actively take back power through an evidence-based program blending creative writing and boxing. Accelerate the development of this recovery empowerment program for sexual abuse survivors through licensing or direct investment.
The innovation
Left Write Hook is an eight-week empowerment and recovery program for survivors of sexual and physical violence. It provides a physical outlet to channel healthy aggression and ways for survivors to learn, connect and heal through creativity and sport.
Market need
Globally, one in three women have experienced physical or sexual violence before the age of 18.In Australia, government statistics estimate 1.4 million adults will experience sexual abuse before the age of 15.
The long-term human and social costs of child abuse and neglect in Australia account for more than $A2 billion in government spending each year.
Innovation status
Research findings show theprogram reduces PTSD, anxiety, stress and depression while increasing personal agency and resilience. A fully funded documentary feature film is in production.
Currently run face-to-face, an online trainer program will help Left Write Hook achieve scale and reach more survivors.
