The third Melbourne-India Postgraduate Program/Academy Conference (MIPPAC 2022) was held on 3rd and 4th February 2022 [2.00 pm-7.00 pm AEST]. The online event was organised by a MIPA graduate researcher committee, with presenters located at Melbourne University and its partner institutions: Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IITKGP), Indian Institute of Science (IISC) and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Tirupati (IISER Tirupati).
Like the previous editions MIPPAC-2017 & MIPPAC-2019, MIPPAC-2022 was designed to provide an intellectually stimulating environment for researchers from UoM and partnering institutions to strengthen existing collaborations and foster new partnerships.
The plenary sessions focused on how individual institutions and faculties value international research partnerships and how activities such as the MIPA program contribute to the international research performance in terms of PhD completions, publications and grant successes.
It was clear from the professional development sessions with industry partners and alumni that peer support, networking and industry-based learning are integral aspects of a PhD. Graduate researchers represent a rich talent pool - possessing the knowledge, intellectual abilities, technical capabilities and professional standards to work on and solve industry-defined problems or generate new knowledge. By bringing a researcher mindset to industry, the graduate researchers can contribute to innovation across all sectors of the Australian economy and society and help underpin university-industry engagement.
Technical sessions were presented by graduate researchers enrolled in the program, located at Melbourne University and the partner institutions with topics ranging from polymerization, oceanography, nanoparticles to epidemiology which attracted a high number of questions from the audience.
The conference not only strengthened the relationship between the institutions but also the graduate researchers and their supervisors, providing excellent networking and learning opportunities for all participants.
