The technology
This technology is a cost-effective method for producing particles for use in extracting rare-earth and precious metals. The method avoids the use of hazardous chemicals, making it safe and environmentally friendly.
Market need
Several industries – such as mining, recycling, environment remediation, water treatment and chemical detection – use solvent extraction to separate dissolved metals from other materials. Current methods of solvent extraction use hazardous chemicals. These chemicals pose risks to the environment and to occupational health and safety. They also contribute to higher purchase and disposal costs.
Technology status
We have validated the process to generate polymer inclusion beads for gold extraction from e-waste.
A patent application was filed on 13 March 2020. Further development of the technology is underway.
