The Melbourne Interdisciplinary Research Institutes strengthen and spark interdisciplinary research at the University - working with industry, governments and communities - in existing and developing areas of importance to society.

  • Melbourne Disability Institute

    Focusing on equality of opportunity for people with disability; quality of life for people with disability, their families and carers; harnessing markets to serve people with disability; inclusive communities; and optimising disability (and human services) policies.

  • Melbourne Energy Institute

    An access point for industry, government and community groups seeking to work with leading researchers on innovative energy solution.

  • Indigenous Knowledge Institute (announced)

    Building on exciting work already taking place between University researchers and teachers and Indigenous communities across Australia

  • Melbourne Social Equity Institute

    Supports interdisciplinary research on social equity issues across the full spectrum of social life including health, law, education, housing, work and transport.

  • Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute

    Facilitates and enables research linkages, projects and conversations leading to increased understanding of sustainability and resilience trends, challenges and solutions.

  • Hallmark Research Initiatives

    This program enables the maturing of interdisciplinary research communities that build on existing strengths across the University. It seeks to harness cross-University capabilities and increase the impact of our high quality research.

  • Networked Society (former MIRI)

    Undertook interdisciplinary research on the connectivity between people, places and things to solve problems facing the networked society
