University Digitisation Centre

The University Digitisation Centre digitises Scholarly Collections materials for research, teaching and civic engagement. The UDC also offers advice and training in digitisation, digital collection management and services about converting analogue materials like books, research papers and 3D objects to digital formats for editing, data mining, resource sharing and preservation.

The University Digitisation Centre (UDC) digitises items from the Universityʼs Scholarly Collections to support research, teaching and civic engagement. The UDC  also offers consultation, advice and self-service digitisation options for members of the University community.

Our services include:

  • Digitisation to industry standards of bound volumes, maps, architectural plans, art works, photographs, loose documents and papers, transparencies, slides, film and negatives (Metamorfoze Strict, FADGI 4 star and ISO 19264-1)
  • Extracting text from scanned images to create editable documents or to facilitate text mining
  • High-quality, self-service scanning at no cost (for University business only)
  • Digitisation advice, including technical requirements, specifications and feasibility for grant applications.

User information

Self-service digitisation, consultations and training are provided free to all members of the University of Melbourne community.

Digitisation of Scholarly Collections is available free of charge via the EOI process. For further information, please contact the Centre.

Fee for service digitisation of other Collections materials is available for digitsation conducted by staff of the University Digitisation Centre.  For further information and the rate card, please contact the Centre.
