Overview

The Melbourne Research Fellowships (Career Interruptions) Program enables eligible researchers to enhance or re-establish their academic careers where they have been significantly interrupted, delayed or otherwise constrained by chronic illness, child rearing or other caring duties.

Successful applicants will receive $60,000 (oncosts inclusive) plus $20,000 for travel or research support, including small equipment purchases.

The amount requested for salary must be matched 1:1 by the host faculty.

To be eligible for this scheme, potential candidates must have completed a PhD degree in their field three to ten years prior to application.

Academic staff already employed by UoM, but not in a continuing position, are eligible to apply.

    Applicants must provide a draft application to their faculty contact by Monday 6 April to allow for internal review and Head of Department approval.

  4. Complete the application

    2021 fellowship applications will be submitted via the University of Melbourne's SmartyGrants portal, here.

  5. Supply referees with documentation

    Supply referees with program Guidelines, your a download of your draft application and Referee's Report Form. Ask referees to email their reports to ric-internalgrants@unimelb.edu.au before the due date.

  6. Submit final application

    Submit the application via SmartyGrants by the due date. Upon submission, SmartyGrants will forward you a PDF of the application with your confirmation email. Please re-attach the supporting documents to this PDF and also submit via the Themis Submissions Workbench.
