Overview

This scheme aims to:

  • Support successful ARC Future Fellows in establishing their research program at the University of Melbourne
  • Enhance the candidate’s competitiveness when applying for the ARC Future Fellowship scheme

Faculties may set their own objectives and priorities in determining which candidates will be nominated for Establishment Grant support. Fellows must apply to their host faculty for Establishment Grant support through whatever process the faculty deems appropriate.

Funding

Chancellery Research & Enterprise will offer grants of up to $100,000 per project. To be eligible for central support, the host department/school/faculty must provide matching funding on a 2:1 basis. Chancellery Research & Enterprise may reduce its level of support in the event that requests exceed the budget for this program.

Chancellery Research & Enterprise does not impose any restrictions on how the central funding can be used, as long as it directly supports the Future Fellow and their project. Faculties may enforce restrictions on the use of funding as appropriate.

How to apply

  1. Total requested Establishment Grant support

The Future Fellowship applicant should include details of the total requested Establishment Grant support in their ARC application in the following sections:

    • D2: Statement by the Administering Organisation – include details of the total financial support being provided by the Admin Org.
    • E1: What is the proposed budget for the project? – in the Administering Organisation column, list the specific items which will be funded by the Establishment Grant OR include a single line for 'Establishment Grant support' under the 'Other' subheading.
    • E3: Details of non-ARC contributions – describe how the UoM Establishment Grant support will contribute to achieving the aims of the project.
    • F6: Research Load (non-ARC Grants and Research) – list the Establishment Grant as a requested application. (Source of Support: The University of Melbourne; Scheme: Establishment Grant 2020).
  2. Submit application to faculty

Fellowship applicants apply to their faculty for support.

Faculties may need to rank applications if they wish to limit support in a particular round.

  3. Faculty submits application to RIC

Faculties should submit a list of names on the Faculty Establishment Grant Form with a faculty commitment and the requested RIC/Chancellery commitment by Thursday 7 November 2019.
