Our licensing principles
What are the principles behind the University of Melbourne’s approach to licensing its intellectual property?
Universities have different drivers and constraints from many other Universities have different drivers and constraints from many other organisations.
The University of Melbourne is a public institution whose primary activities are teaching and research. Through collaborative partnerships and alliances with industry, research institutions and government, we work together to drive inventions and innovations that create impact and change the world for the better. We do this by facilitating the exchange of ideas, and providing access to diverse expertise, complementary resources and infrastructure. Revenue generation is an important but secondary goal that flows naturally from success in creating impact.
