UoM Network Disruption: 02-03 February 2019

A network maintenance window affecting the University of Melbourne Research Data Management (RDM) platforms (i.e. Mediaflux, DaRIS and Omeka), Swift object storage, Melbourne Research Cloud and Spartan HPC service has been scheduled.

START TIME: 02-Feb-2019, 09:00 A.M. AEDT
END TIME: 03-Feb-2019, 03:00 P.M. AEDT

REASONS

University of Melbourne Network Team are planning to perform the hardware replacement and software upgrade of our data centre distribution routers as approved by the Change Advisory Board (CHG0052353 and CHG0051348). This maintenance is essential for the University's network operation and updates the supervisor modules on both the Queensberry St. Data Centre and the Noble Park Data centre.

The specific change windows are:

  • Noble Park Data Centre: Saturday 02-Feb-2019, 09:00 to 15:00
  • Queensberry St. Data Centre: Sunday 03-Feb-2019, 09:00 to 15:00

DETAIL

Beginning at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday, 02-Feb-2019 until 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, 03-Feb-2019, access to all ResPlat services such as Research Data Management (RDM) platforms (i.e. Mediaflux, DaRIS and Omeka), Swift object storage, Melbourne Research Cloud and Spartan HPC will be affected intermittently while University Network Team undertakes vital network maintenance work on the data centre network.

RDM Platforms

Access to the following Mediaflux, DaRIS and Omeka services will be unavailable for the entire Sunday (03-Feb-2019), services are expected to resume on Monday (04-Feb-2019) morning.

  • Mediaflux server (mediaflux.researchsoftware.unimelb.edu.au  &  mediaflux.cloud.unimelb.edu.au)
  • MBCIU DaRIS server (daris-1.cloud.unimelb.edu.au)
  • UoM Omeka server (omeka.cloud.unimelb.edu.au)

Swift Object Storage

Access to the UoM Swift object storage will be unavailable for both Saturday (02-Feb-2019) and Sunday (03-Feb-2019), service is expected to resume on Monday (04-Feb-2019) morning.

Melbourne Research Cloud

During this window, there will be up to 15 minutes of network disruptions for external access to and from your VM instances. The instances themselves and attached storage volumes will remain up and running, however, you will also be unable to use the dashboard, CLI or API access during those windows.

Spartan HPC

Spartan login node will be affected intermittently during this window, however, jobs will continue to run during this window but logins and file transfers may fail for short periods. Other parts of Spartan HPC service will not be affected during this scheduled outage.
