X-ray Imaging System

knee x-rays multiple views

Our mobile biplane X-ray imaging system investigates human motion biomechanics.

Our unique Mobile Biplane X-ray (MoBiX) imaging system can accurately measure bone motion at joints – such as the knee – as people walk over ground, up and down stairs, and perform other activities of daily living.

This novel imaging system has applications in orthopaedics, sports, and rehabilitation. For example, it’s been used in a clinical trial to measure knee implant motion in patients who have undergone a total knee replacement. This trial, which was sponsored by an international orthopaedic implant company, evaluated the kinematic performance of three common total knee arthroplasty designs.  The MoBiX imaging system has also been used to measure full three-dimensional motion of the knew joint in healthy people and evaluate the biomechanical mechanisms underlying knee osteoarthritis in patients after reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Resources

The MoBiX imaging system measures bone motion in three dimensions at high frame rates (up to 1000 X-ray images per second) and high precision during human locomotion.
