The Melbourne Statistical Consulting Platform provides statistical advice on designing and implementing quantitative studies, and analysing and interpreting results, to generate robust findings and insights.
We offer practical statistical advice about designing, implementing and analysing your quantitative research studies. Our team is experienced in statistics and data analysis and can work on any size of study.
We offer tailored consultations to University of Melbourne academics, professional staff and graduate researchers, with an emphasis on education and training. We can cover any stage of a quantitative research project, including:
- Study design
- Questionnaire design and data collection methods
- Choice of sample size
- Data management and verification
- Use of statistical software
- Data exploration and visualisation
- Modelling and analytics strategies, including modern methods from data science
- Interpretation and quality communication of analyses.
We also run specialised short courses for professionals, academic and graduate researchers.
For example, we supported a project about milk production and climate with large volumes of data to analyse. Run by University of Melbourne researchers with Dairy Australia and dairy cooperative Norco, the team had several million milk production records collected at 5000 Australian dairy farms over the course of more than a decade to manage.
We helped organise the data for statistical analysis, determine predictor variables based on climate data, specify statistical models and interpret the results.
Our statistical consultants have a wealth of experience and knowledge, developed across industry, business and government projects and collaborations.
Our services are open to University graduate researchers and staff. Graduate researchers receive up to ten hours of consultation free-of-charge. Staff services are provided on a fee-for-service basis. We also offer short courses to University researchers, including graduate researchers, some free-of-charge and others on a fee-paying basis.
