Digital twins are virtual environments that depict and analyse real-world scenarios. They can be used to make better predictive decisions in industries from urban planning to healthcare.

Based within the Centre for Spatial Data Infrastructures and Land Administration (CSDILA), the University of Melbourne’s Digital Twin platform is used to develop leading-edge digital urban infrastructure solutions with industry and government partners.

Our in-house design and development team has the technical expertise and resources to rapidly implement quality digital twin solutions.

We can:

  • Build collaborative, interactive 3D, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality visualisations that incorporate 2D, 3D, and 4D (time) data and services
  • Create a multi-disciplinary environment for different stakeholders, so you can simulate new workflows and explore potential business cases
  • Use sophisticated customer validation methods to develop Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) to ensure these are fit-for-purpose.

We’ve worked with wide range of government and industry clients. For example, we collaborated with engineering firm ARUP to develop the PedDesign tool to help understand how infrastructure design and layout can impact people’s movement and predict the risks of virus transmission.

We also partnered with the Victorian Government on a Digital Twin Projectof Fishermans Bend, which involved creating 3D models of physical assets at the urban renewal precinct, including precise location, design and conditions.

We collaborate with government and industry partners to translate research problems into applied research and develop proof-of-concepts for testing new ideas.

The CSDILA Digital Twin platform is designed in response to requirements for finding, accessing, aggregating, and visualising datasets hosted in disparate databases across state and local governments and other data custodians. To facilitate seamless integration of data and technology components, we adopt the open standards.
