Professor Jennifer Milam

Jennifer Milam is Head of the School of Culture and Communication at the University of Melbourne. She was previously the ARC Future Fellow and Professor of Art History and Eighteenth-Century Studies at the University of Sydney. Her ARC Future Fellowship considered the visual contexts of garden spaces in which ideas related to cosmopolitanism, national identity and imperialistic ambitions have been expressed and experienced. She publishes widely on art and aesthetics in the Enlightenment in journals such as The Burlington Magazine and Art Bulletin, and published books the French painter Jean-Honoré Fragonard, and women artists and patrons in eighteenth-century Europe. She has served on the Board of Executives of the College Art Association, the ERA Research Evaluation Committee and College of Experts for the Australian Research Council and received external research grants and fellowships from the Australian Research Council (2013-17, 2009-11, 2004-6, 2002, 1998-9), the Yale Centre for British Art (2007), Columbia University (2003) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (2002) amongst others.
