How to apply

  1. Communicate with International Grants Team, RIC and Program Director, DoD

For higher chances of success, it is recommended that applicant conduct active discussions with the Program Director and the International Grants Team international-research@unimelb.edu.au as early as possible and where relevant, the Faculty Research Office.
  2. Download package from Grants.gov and review documentation

Search for the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) number (generally in the format of ‘PAR-14-007’).
  3. Foreign Justification

Consider what expertise your team has “unusual talent, resources or populations and/or environment conditions” that require the work to be done outside the USA.
  4. For applications with other organisations as the sub-awardees

Forward the contact information for any external collaborators or contractors to the International Grants Team.
  5. Complete the draft application

  6. Submit to Themis Grants Submission Workbench

Submission requires Head of Department approval, which can be obtained through Themis.
  7. Review Ready

Ten days prior to submission date, email completed application and supporting documents in Word format to international-research@unimelb.edu.au. The International Grants Team will provide comments and suggestions within 5 working days.

NB: Past experience has proven that organising supporting materials at the end of the grant writing process causes significant submission delays and impacts the quality of the application. It is recommended that applicant delegate tasks to the project team as early as possible.
  8. Submit by the Internal Deadline

Submit to international-research@unimelb.edu.au at least 5 working days prior to the Grants.gov deadline (if review is required, at least 10 working days is required).  NB. Please be aware of version controls issues during submission for the internal deadline (many small emails may cause confusion on both sides). RIC cannot guarantee successful submission for late or incomplete applications.
