The Scheme aims to:
- Support successful ARC DECRAs in establishing their research program at the University of Melbourne
- Enhance the candidate’s competitiveness when applying for the ARC DECRA scheme.
Faculties may set their own objectives and priorities in determining which candidates will be nominated for Establishment Grant support. DECRA applicants must apply to their host faculty for Establishment Grant support through whatever process the faculty deems appropriate. Establishment Grant requests must be submitted by faculties to Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (RIC), not directly by individual DECRA applicants. For further information refer to your Faculty Research Manager.
RIC will offer grants of up to $25,000 per project. To be eligible for central RIC support, the host department/school/faculty must provide matching funding on a 1:1 basis. The minimum amount per project committed by the faculty/school/department should be $12.5 thousand to ensure the Total Establishment Grant package has an impact. RIC may reduce its level of support in the event that requests exceed the budget for this program.
RIC does not impose any restrictions on how the RIC funding can be used, as long as it directly supports the DECRA and their project. Faculties may enforce restrictions on the use of funding as appropriate. RIC Establishment Grant support is conditional on the ARC DECRA being administered by the University for its entire duration.
How to apply
Follow steps 1-4 of the ARC DECRA grants page to apply for the award. Then, if applying for a DECRA Establishment Grant, follow steps 5-7:
Submit a Notice of Intent (NOI).
The NOI should be completed early to provide RIC with CIA contact details.
Update RMS 2.0 profile and CV

Complete the draft application in RMS
Complete the application in RMS 2.0
Apply to host faculty for support
DECRA applicants apply to their host faculty for support (see Critical Dates for faculty-specific information and dates).
Faculties may need to rank applications if they wish to limit support for a particular round.
Faculty to submit request for support to RIC
Faculties should submit a list of names with a faculty/school/department commitment and the requested RIC commitment by the 2016 ARC DECRA submission period (19-23 February 2016).
