Overview

The University of Melbourne welcomes international citizens and permanent residents who wish to pursue their PhD or undertake postdoctoral research using financial support obtained by them under the Australian Department of Education's Endeavour Research Fellowship.

The Research at Melbourne Strategy: Ensuring Excellence and Impact to 2025, recognises that international collaborators are well placed to play significant regional and global roles in the further development of global higher education, research and innovation. Through the Endeavour program, as well as its own programs that support development of international research collaboration , the University seeks to foster mutually beneficial exchanges and research training experiences for international and Melbourne researchers and post-graduate students.

How to apply

Applying for a full PhD

Graduate students seeking to pursue a full PhD using a scholarship must first be accepted to enrol in one of the University of Melbourne’s 11 discipline specific Faculties and Graduate Schools. For information on Research training opportunities offered at the University by these Faculties, Graduate Schools and Centres, applicants should visit the Melbourne School of Graduate Research website.

Potential applicants can also view available academic supervisors using the Find an Expert database.

Applicants are also encouraged to consider opportunities for co-supervision of their PhD as this provides candidates the opportunity to be part of a leading research group at Melbourne while maintaining links with Brazilian academics and institutions.

Applying for a Postdoctoral Exchange at UoM

Early career academics and researchers  are welcome to undertake a postdoctoral research exchange at the University of Melbourne. To do so, potential applicants must obtain a letter of support from an academic host at the University of Melbourne. To identify a potential host please contact the relevant Faculty Research Office or an individual academic using the University’s Find an Expert database. Potential applicants must abide by the eligibility and application requirements set out within the Endeavour Program as well as Australian Visa and income tax regulations. It is highly recommended that prospective applicants obtain independent advice regarding the potential tax implications of undertaking a postdoctoral scholarship in Australia.

Visa Information
