Review of Policy on the Management of Research Data and Records
The current policy for the Management of Research Data and Records was ratified in 2005. This policy has now been updated to provide clearer information to researchers, student researchers and Heads of Department about their responsibilities for the short and long term management of research data and records. These changes are in alignment with the 2007 Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research, and aim to accommodate changes in practices associated with the long term retention of research data and records. The updated draft policy is attached for your comments.
Changes to note in the updated draft policy include:
- Policy has been separated from procedures, guidelines and other supporting documentation which will be developed at the conclusion of the policy review consultation process
- Expanded definitions section to include a Central Research Data Registry and a Research Data Management Plan
- Updated policy requirements for Researchers, Student Researchers and Heads of Department, including documentation for long term management of research data and records, registration of this documentation in local or central registries, and encouragement for the use of data management plans
- Updated Responsibilities for oversight and implementation of the Policy
