Presentation types & abstract templates

The Indigenous Place & Partnerships Conference encourages innovative presentations that focus on the relationship-building (or maintenance) aspect of research projects. Participants are encouraged to foreground their partnership work in the context of project outcomes, but to discuss translation, outputs or design elements through place-based and relationship prerogatives.

In education research, there is a shift from ideas of place to land education. Outcomes from the Collaborate for Children scoping project include a suite of reports on the importance of place-based approaches for children's wellbeing. Discourses of place, place-making and Country impact our understanding of the built environment. In a range of fields, the specificity of place, land and Country are increasingly recognised as integral to effective service delivery, enabling community-driven outcomes and culturally responsive research translation.

Abstracts are invited from academic teams across the University of Melbourne to propose panel presentations or roundtables, full symposia or workshop sessions, poster presentations or PechaKucha on the conference theme of place & partnerships.

Proposals which encourage interaction and engagement with attendees are encouraged.

  • Panel Presentations

    Presentations provide an opportunity for research partners to discuss their project from a range of perspectives, and specifically include Indigenous organisations or community representations who enabled the work. A panel or roundtable format is encouraged, and proposals that design interaction and audience engagement are welcome. Proposals that do not include representatives from partner organisations are unlikely to be accepted.

  • Workshops & Symposia

    Workshop or symposia sessions should be designed to maximise active involvement, with specific objectives related to one or more of the conference themes. Short presentations are followed by opportunities to participate in discussions in small groups or with the panel.

    • workshops - encourage active involvement of participants and designing opportunities for meaningful discussion on the conference themes
    • symposia - provide a comprehensive examination of an issue or project, and include a significant allocation of time for questions and discussion. Suggested format: brief introduction, 3-4 short presentations, Q&A/discussion
  • Poster Presentations

    Posters are a useful method of communicating ideas about new approaches or innovations related to one or more of the conference themes. Each poster will be allocated a brief presentation time of 3 minutes + 2 minutes for questions and discussion. This is a useful strategy for research students or projects in early stages of development. Authors are responsible for printing their posters (maximum A0 size).

  • PechaKucha

    PechaKucha is a presentation style which focuses on visual elements, rather than text. Participants show 20 slides for 20 seconds each, with the time limit strictly enforced.
