Senate inquiry into indefinite detention of people with cognitive and psychiatric impairment in Australia

Dr Piers Gooding, DRI postdoctoral researcher with the Unfitness to Plead Project, gave testimony at a Senate Committee Hearing earlier this week, which received coverage in the Guardian. He told the Darwin hearing that 'again and again' the project team found people who felt encouraged to serve brief jail time rather than claim they were unfit to plead.
