Health Rights and Older People

On Wed July 5th, the Hallmark Ageing Research Initiative co-hosted a presentation by Professor Jean McHale, Director, Centre for Health Law, Science and Policy at the University of Birmingham, titled Health Rights and Older People: Is the Convention for the Human Rights of Older People the Answer?

The presentation addressed issues around provision of health care for older people across jurisdictions. As older people have been increasingly discriminated against, marginalised, made vulnerable and excluded from certain forms of health care, Professor McHale raised the question of whether it was time that we took health rights concerning older people more seriously.

At a time when the UN is exploring the potential for a UN Convention on the Rights of Older Persons, this lecture explored the implications of such a Convention for the delivery of health care services to older people.
